Privacy policy

Effective 7 September 2026 · applies to the Memorious apps and to memorious.app

The short version: your journal lives on your own devices. We run no server that holds it, we have no account for you, and we collect nothing from the app. The rest of this page is the detail.

Who we are

Memorious is made by Flag Finder (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (“we”). For anything about this policy, write to info@flagfinder.co.za.

What the app stores, and where

Everything you capture — text, photos, video, voice notes, music recordings and the transcripts made from them — is stored on the device you captured it with, in an encrypted journal protected by a master password you choose. We do not have that password and cannot recover it. If you lose it, the journal cannot be opened by anyone, including us.

The app has no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud storage of ours, and no analytics or advertising code. It does not send your journal, your usage, or your identity to us or to any third party.

Sync between your devices

If you pair two of your devices, they copy the journal to each other directly. The connection is end-to-end encrypted; only paired devices holding the master password can read it.

Two network services help devices find each other, and you can turn both off in the app’s sync settings:

You may also choose to run your own always-on Memorious peer, on hardware you control. It is yours; this policy does not cover it because we never see it.

Transcription and text recognition

Voice notes are transcribed and photos are read for text by a Memorious peer that you run, using models that run on that machine. No audio, image or text is sent to us or to a third-party service for this.

Permissions the app asks for

Each is used for that purpose only, and only when you use the feature.

Purchases and the App Store

The iOS app is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no card details, and Apple’s own privacy policy governs the purchase. If you have opted in to sharing crash reports with developers, Apple may pass us anonymised crash logs; they contain no journal content.

The website

memorious.app uses no cookies and no analytics. If you enter an email address to be told when the app is available, we store that address on our own systems, use it for that one purpose, and delete it when you ask or once the notice has been sent.

Your rights

Because your journal never reaches us, most requests — access, correction, deletion — you fulfil yourself, on your device. For the one thing we may hold, a waitlist email address, write to us and we will confirm, correct or delete it. South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act applies to us; you may also complain to the Information Regulator.

Children

Memorious is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect nothing from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new effective date. We will not weaken it quietly.
